Meet the New Bosses
After crashing the gate of the political establishment, bloggers are looking more like the next gatekeepers.
Indeed, they are.  This article is more about top bloggers becoming part of the political establishment they have fought.  My beef with them has more to do with their elitism in only quoting and linking to each other.  John Amato is the only major blogger who links to less well traveled sites regularly.  The rest of them treat the vast majority of us the same way the mainstream media treats them.  They either ignore or sneer.

Immigration is Top Story, but Terror Takes Over: June 24 - 29, 2007
With the apparent demise of the immigration reform bill, a major Supreme Court decision on race, and a few natural disasters, last week was jammed with big news events. But nothing got the media’s attention like a couple of suspicious cars parked in London.

Presidential Power at 60-Year-High
In their new book “Presidential Power: Unchecked and Unbalanced” (W. W. Norton, 2007), Johns Hopkins University political scientists Benjamin Ginsberg and Matthew Crenson trace the history of the presidency since the middle of last century, uncovering a series of murder mystery-like motives, means and opportunities that have shaped the executive branch into the most powerful institution on the globe.

Carlyle Group In Talks To Acquire Virgin Media
The Carlyle Group is in discussions with Virgin Media, the British cable company whose largest investor is Richard Branson, over a potential bid worth around $20 billion, a person familiar with the negotiations said yesterday.
Look forward to even more playing up of fear as a way to start more wars, if they’re successful, because the Carlyle Group invests heavily in munitions.

Big Oil and Big Media V. Hugo Chávez
On June 27, the New York Times and Wall Street Journal vied for attention with feature stories on oil giants ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips “walking away from their multi-billion-dollar investments in Venezuela”… Lendman contrasts how “the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and the rest of the dominant U.S. media shamelessly denounce Hugo Chávez for his courage and honor doing the right thing” with “their silence, and effective complicity, on what will be one of the greatest ever corporate crimes”—being the U.S. demanding its “puppet Iraqi parliament…pass its new ‘Hydrocarbon Law’ drafted in Washington and by big U.S. and UK oil companies.”

Wash. Post editorial cited study to show positive effects of No Child Left Behind, ignored authors’ caveats
A Washington Post editorial suggested that No Child Left Behind had led to improvements in reading and math test scores documented in a recent study. But as an earlier Post news article noted, the authors of that study “warned that it is difficult to say whether or how much the No Child Left Behind law is driving the achievement gains.”

Immigration on NPR: Why Do We Have Jobs That Citizens Don’t Want to Do?
NPR had a segment [Monday] morning in which it interviewed an immigrant woman who faced deportation after being arrested for working without proper documentation. She explained that she had a dangerous job that U.S. citizens don’t want to do. It would have been interesting to raise the obvious question in this context, “why do we have jobs that U.S. citizens don’t want to do?”… Many of the jobs that U.S. citizens don’t want to do are simply jobs U.S. citizens don’t want to do at the wages that employers want to pay.

Conservatives try to link Moore to UK attacks
These right wingers are so desperate to attack Moore and “SICKO,” that they’ll write anything to discredit the heath care debate in this country—including trying to link Michael with the UK terrorist attacks as slyly as they can.

The Conflict of Interest Between Matthews and Coulter
Ann Coulter’s Godless is published by Crown Forum, an imprint of the Crown Publishing Group, which is part of Random House. Who is Chris Matthews’ publisher for his upcoming book Life’s a Campaign: What Politics Has Taught Me About Friendship, Rivalry, Reputation, and Success? You guessed it - Random House. But wait, there’s more… Matthews and Coulter’s next books, published by the same parent company, Random House, are scheduled to hit the shelves simultaneously this fall.

Just Getting Warmed Up
MSNBC executives have decided that Scarborough is the next Don Imus — not that anyone could replace Imus — and are finalizing the details for “Morning Joe” to permanently take over the 6-to-9 morning slot… And CBS Radio, which syndicated Imus until his April firing, is negotiating whether some of its stations will carry the “Joe” show, as well.

Fox sued for airing fake ‘ham sandwich’ story.
In April, Think Progress noted that Fox News morning show “Fox & Friends” aired at least eight segments about a fake news story claiming a school in Maine had formed “an anti-ham ‘response plan’” after a Muslim student complained of being harassed with a ham steak. After the Fox report, the school’s superintendent received threatening calls and hate mail. He’s now suing Fox News.
